This Juneteenth, Rochester’s youth were front and center on local television, sharing their hopes, dreams, and visions for a more inclusive future. The powerful segment aired on 13WHAM and was produced by veteran journalist Karen Edwards, spotlighting teens speaking candidly about what liberation means to them today.
This piece is more than a media hit—it’s a reflection of the transformational work Media 2070 and Mañón Media Management (MMM) are doing together to reshape how newsrooms operate. By centering Black voices and building real relationships with reporters across the country, we’re helping to rewrite who gets to be seen, heard, and understood in the media landscape.
At MMM, we don’t just pitch a story—we help create a platform. We know that behind every great placement is a trusting relationship with a journalist, a deep understanding of what newsrooms need, and a commitment to narrative equity. Our long-standing partnership with Karen and other journalists allows us to bring overlooked stories to the surface in ways that are both newsworthy and community-rooted.
This Juneteenth placement is a key example of what it means to bridge newsroom transformation with frontline storytelling. As part of Media 2070’s mission to imagine a media system that truly serves Black communities, we helped identify powerful youth voices and provided language, prep, and framing that honored their brilliance. The result? A segment that informs, uplifts, and inspires.
