Creatives from Free Press and Media 2070 were announced as the Bronze winners of the 46th annual Telly awards in the “Education & Discovery” category for the Reparative Journalism series. The short-form video series explores the history of harmful media and news in America and reparative models around the world as a path to repair.
The annual Telly awards honors work that celebrates creativity and boldly and innovatively told stories and the Reparative Journalism series melds powerful storytelling with imaginative editing, platforming important issues and sharing critical educational sources to move public discourse forward.
“[I knew I wanted to show a future that’s not as far away as we think,” said Diamond Hardiman, Reparative Narrative & Creative Strategy Director for Media 2070. “The series allows us to show past harm but also explore repair world-wide. We sit down with people already doing this work to show that this tomorrow we’re dreaming of is already happening– it just needs more resources and support.”
“Making this video series was a fun and informative time for us too,” said Qing Saville, Journalism Program Manager, co-creator, “We learned about so many models around the world and using this series to demystify reparations is key to ensuring tomorrow’s journalism represents us all.”
“Our industry is experimenting with new technologies like never before, shaping truly compelling stories to draw attention to some of the world’s most pressing issues,” shares Telly Awards Managing Director Amanda Needham. “The Telly Awards is uniquely positioned to meet the industry where it’s actually making work, be that on television or TikTok.”
The series concluded as of Spring 2025. All three parts can be seen online along with a full guide and resource list to shape discourse.
