540WMain has served the community since 2016, and now, the organization is ready to expand beyond the Rochester region. Calvin Eaton, founder & CEO, announced the platform’s capital campaign and intent to branch into other cities, saying he knows the knowledge and resources they’re providing to Rochester individuals are needed elsewhere too:

“We’ve grown so much in these past years and we’ve tackled issues including gentrification, homelessness and poverty. We know there are other cities and counties dealing with the same problems, this campaign will help us raise the money we need to reach those people, improve our infrastructure and grow our team.”

540WMain is raising $50,000 through the end of June and donations will go toward:

  • Increasing access for ASL interpreting and Spanish speakers

  • Increasing our community scholarship fund that makes affordable to all

  • Branching into new communities and areas

  • Partnering with national agencies committed to institutional antiracist change

Eaton explained they'll start by providing services in neighboring cities Buffalo & Syracuse, so they can build authentic relationships with residents and activists. The team also wants to strengthen existing partnerships with the City Roots Land Trust and Rochester Ecology Partners and the University of Rochester, while also partnering with new local agencies like NTID/RIT and Cornell Cooperative Extension and Cornell University.

“Right now, so many people are trying to educate themselves, especially in light of recent and ongoing social justice issues. We’re excited to continue growing these efforts,” said Meg Eaton, Director of Community Engagement.
