By: MMM Editorial Team, Dayana Melendez
The conversation around media accountability may appear to be fading, but behind the scenes, momentum continues to build. Across the country, journalists, editors and organizers are finding new ways to collaborate, share resources and push for a more equitable media landscape.
Media 2070, a national movement focused on media reparations and racial equity, will host its next consortium meeting May 14 at 6 p.m. ET. The virtual convening will bring together journalists, media-makers, organizers and newsroom leaders working to advance media equity, improve coverage and strengthen the broader media ecosystem.
The event will include updates on ongoing media reparations efforts, along with insights from newsrooms across the nation. It will also feature a Q&A conversation with Phil Lewis, deputy editor at HuffPost and president of the Washington Association of Black Journalists. Lewis covers breaking and trending news nationwide, with a focus on issues impacting Black communities, and has reported on the White House and Congress.
“We’re at a moment where we must be intentional about how media systems evolve and who they serve.”— Anshantia Oso, Executive Director, Media 2070
Oso said the upcoming meeting reflects the organization’s continued growth and commitment to building new systems that better serve communities.
“This meeting is proof that we’re growing as an organization,” Oso said. “We’re bringing together people who align on these values to rebuild and reimagine media systems.”

Why This Moment Matters for Media
While shifts in the industry, including layoffs and changing newsroom priorities, have raised questions about long-term commitment to media justice, efforts like Media 2070’s consortium meetings suggest continued engagement and investment. These convenings create space for collaboration among journalists and organizations that may not otherwise connect, often leading to new partnerships, shared strategies and long-term impact across the industry.
