The digital divide persists in communities across the nation and has only worsened with the COVID-19 pandemic. Many local students don't have access to the key technology they need to excel. Additionally, the resources to learn important skills like coding, content creation and editing can sometimes be completely out of reach.

Alton Calloway is hoping to change that.

He's one of the co-founders of The Anthony Washington (A.W.) Foundation for Tech and Trade, which offers several programs teaching crucial digital skills and serving students as young as 6-years-old.

"The A.W. Foundation’s overall mission is to inspire, create and develop skills in multimedia that can be later applied in career focused areas. This consists of three main units taught throughout our yearly program, which includes: Web, Audio & Video," said Calloway.

The Foundation takes a proactive approach to helping students, stating on their website: There are reasons for the behavior and thought process of these youngsters which need to be identified, isolated and proactively acted upon. To motivate the youngsters one needs to think in sync with them and counter the negatives accordingly.

Some of the Foundation's major sponsors include the NFL, FOX Sports and the YMCA.
