Media 2070’s Black Future Newsstand (BFN) is touching down at AfroTech next week—offering a high-energy sneak peek of an exhibit that imagines a future where Black stories are honored with care and amplified with intention. As thousands of creatives, founders and technologists gather to build tomorrow, BFN invites attendees to step inside a newsroom that loves us back—and then return later in the week at Sanman Studio (@sanmanstudios) for the full installation.
“They’ll get a little teaser, a little hint at some of the ways the newsstand will come together but it’s not the exact same as what visitors will experience on Friday,” said Diamond Hardiman, Reparative Narrative & Creative Strategy Director and BFN lead organizer. “The same themes of afrofuturism and media care will be there of course, but that way people who visit us can expect to come back again and have a more in-depth experience.”

What to expect at AfroTech vs. the full installation
At AfroTech, BFN is once again exploring: What does a care-centered media ecosystem look and feel like? Later in the week, Sanman Studio hosts the deeper dive: expanded stations, layered storytelling, and more space to reflect, respond, and co-create visions for a reparative media future. Additionally, this stop will have a larger focus on reproductive justice and climate.
“Step into a newsroom that loves us back—and help shape what our media could be.”
Why this matters now
From news deserts to algorithmic bias, today’s media often under-serves Black communities. BFN flips the script—and creates joyful spaces where we can discuss critical issues and trends.
