3 Client Lessons That Transformed How We Grow

Through Mañón Media, I’ve worked with entrepreneurs, activists, and visionaries who are changing industries and communities every day. And while I’m honored to amplify their voices, the truth is—I learn just as much from them as they do from me.

Being in these rooms has reshaped how I move through my own business and life. These aren’t complicated strategies or “10-step success hacks.” They’re simple practices that change everything once you start living them. And because they’ve transformed MMM, I want to pass them on to you.

1. Ask yourself: What do I need to do my best?

One of the first times I heard this question, I was supporting a client campaign. I expected the usual “what do we need to get this done?” But instead, she asked me: What do you need to do your best?

That simple shift reframed everything. Most of us give ourselves just enough—enough time to meet a deadline, enough energy to push through, enough resources to make it work. But “just enough” isn’t the same as your best.

When you ask this question, you stop measuring only by output. Instead, you make space for the habits, resources, and routines that allow you to show up fully. It’s not about doing more—it’s about creating the conditions where your best can actually breathe.

2. Build your bank.

At the start, Media 2070 didn’t always have full audiences. Some events only had a handful of attendees. But they documented everything: lives, briefings, notes, recordings. They weren’t chasing popularity; they were building proof.

Today, when people look back, they see a rich archive of consistency and vision from day one. That’s part of why their following is so strong now.

The lesson? Save it all—photos, videos, press releases, drafts. Even if you don’t use it immediately, those assets become your receipts, your archive of impact, and your stepping stones to the next level. Future you will be grateful.

3. Say no to say yes.

One of the hardest lessons: growth sometimes looks like decline on paper. Saying no to misaligned projects or slowing down can feel risky, but it creates space for what truly matters.

When you say no to the “meh,” you free yourself up for aligned opportunities—the ones that light you up and often bring more revenue, too. Misaligned work almost always costs more energy than it’s worth.

For me, especially after becoming a mom, this lesson hit differently. Protecting my time meant turning down projects. But it also sharpened my focus. The result? We grew more than ever.

The thread that ties them together

These three lessons have one thing in common: simplicity. They’re not about mastering complex systems. They’re about clarity, alignment, and consistency.

That’s why they’ve shaped not only how we serve our clients, but how we live. Because at the end of the day, growth doesn’t come from chasing optics—it comes from showing up with impact that lasts.
