The Seventh Annual Expo Will Honor Black Authors Who are Shaping the Future
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Rochester Black Authors Association is hosting its seventh annual Rochester Black Authors Expo on Sat., June 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wilson Foundation Academy at 200 Genesee St. Rochester, New York. Building on the success of National Black Authors Day, this transformative event unites local Black authors and community members for an empowering experience that celebrates Black authorship and its influence on redefining the Eurocentric literary canon. This year’s theme is “Branding,” recognizing and honoring the remarkable efforts of authors who go beyond writing their books and aim to expand their platforms to amplify their impact in the literary world, sparking a much-needed conversation about the power of diverse storytelling to challenge perspectives and inspire a positive shift in societal views and values.
“The seventh annual Rochester Black Authors Expo is an opportunity to celebrate and support Black authors in an authentic and empowering way,” said CaTyra Polland, executive secretary of the Rochester Black Authors Association and founder and CEO of Love for Words. We are honored to carry on the mission and vision of Corey Lamar Tanksley, the founder of the Rochester Black Authors Association and the expo. He passed in 2021, so we are determined to keep his legacy alive."
The expo is free and open to the public, and author vendor tables cost $75.00. The event will also feature food from A Taste of Grace Catering, founded by Latonya Summer, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
