AI Is Not a PR Solution. Why You Can't ChatGPT Your Way into the Spotlight (Or Most Newsrooms)

AI can be an excellent manual shortcut but when it comes to the architecture of real PR campaigns, connecting with industry leaders & crafting deliverables that drive action, it fails every time. For leaders and CEOs hoping to save time, it can be a frustrating source of new pain as they still "hold" all of the effort.

AI-driven marketing is everywhere. You've seen it:

"It's not X. It's Y."

"Such a sharp insight."

"Let's add clarity here."

Brands and influencers who once had clear, distinct and compelling voices trading years of great brand writing for "lazy, cheap copy."

For busy CEO's and visionaries, the truth is that the promise of a tool that can create press releases, pitches, and social media captions in seconds is incredibly tempting. And rightfully so. You're busy, you want to elevate your current work and this seems like an easy rock ready to take out two birds. In fact, it feels like a viable shortcut to the national stage and with recent Claude trends to vibecode apps, perhaps it'll take just a few hours of your time.

But here is the reality: AI is a mirror and if you put in murky, unclear language, it's going to scale it into major campaigns that only confuse your audience further.

AI models depend on existing input. By definition, their output reflects what the norm or average person has asked of them. Models spit out exactly what has worked for most businesses based on the information shared with them by many people. You can try the age-old "pretend you're a major PR expert" but the truth is it's lacking the polish a PR team gives you through several rounds of meetings, interviews and literal market research. Your PR team tests copy, different visuals and ways of connecting with your audience. All of these iterations quite literally lead to compelling language that is accessible, attractive and actionable.

At MMM, our premium clients know that human intelligence and creativity are not just a luxury but a necessity for anyone seeking to promote their brand to the masses. When you rely on AI for your PR journey, you are not just "saving time;" you are getting rid of the unique voice your brand deserves and needs to actually stand out.

If you are a visionary seeking unique perspectives that give your brand true authority over its narrative, AI is your greatest enemy, not your friend.

The Dual-Capability Myth

It is often believed that a well-detailed, amazing prompt to AI can replace PR experience, but it cannot. PR is a high-stakes craft. Here is a quick look at the four reasons, ChatGPT and Claude are a tool, not a replacement for excellent public relations work:

  1. Insider knowledge and knowing how to newsjack requires human intuition. By the time you have fed a news story into an AI model to formulate a pitch, the window of attention and relevance has been shut.

  2. Journalists and producers have specific preferences for how they receive information in pitches. AI does not know that a specific editor at The Times might prefer bullet points over paragraph hooks.

  3. And when it works? PR is a grind: interview coordination, sending corrections, maintaining relationships. When you ask AI to do this work, you're still holding it at a time your job needs you in your Zone of Genius most.

  4. Modern newsrooms are more hostile towards automated pitches. Most journalists filter out any AI-generated content. Real, long-term narrative crafting is not about landing the most articles but building a relationship with the media so they see you as a trusted source for years to come. AI cannot connect with producers or take them out to lunch, and it certainly cannot advocate for your vision.

AI still struggles creating graphics that are compelling and while it can mimic a photo or video, it can't channel the real work of striking language that moves your audience.
